Rail Guide


Position Summary

The Rail Guide is involved in many functions onboard the Wilderness Express railcars. This role provides narration, informs guests of safety issues, controls the flow of the dining room and sells retail items.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Primary responsibilities of the Rail Guide include but are not limited to:

  • Provides narration to groups of up to 80 guests on a broad range of Alaskan topics
  • Educates guests on train safety and protocol
  • Promotes and sells gift items related to the train experience
  • Coordinates dining room traffic by acting as a liaison between guests and restaurant
  • Performs other duties as assigned
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates for the Rail Guide position must meet the following criteria in order to be considered as an applicant:

  • Be 21 years of age prior to beginning work
  • Possess a current CPR and First Aid Certificate
  • Be able to lift a minimum of 35 lbs
  • Possess a current TAPs card (Training will be provided)
  • Be willing to submit to a pre-employment drug test
  • Be a U.S. citizen or show proof of eligibility to work in the U.S.
  • Be able to work a full season
  • Be able to work as part of a team in close quarters with 5 other crewmembers
 
 
 
 
 
 
Training Timeline:

Once hired, RCT will provide you with a thorough training program starting in May.

Wages:

First year Rail Guide $10.00/hour + gratuities

Overtime wages are paid at 1 1/2 times the regular rate of pay for the hours in excess of 8 hours per day or 40 hours per week.

Bonus:

Upon successful completion of the assignment, you will be eligible for a Longevity Bonus calculated at 10% of your gross wages (regular and overtime) earned during this assignment. 

Benefits:

If hired prior to July 1st, and upon successful completion of this assignment, you will be eligible for a cruise on Royal Caribbean International or Celebrity Cruises at a highly discounted employee rate.
