Onboard Host Guide
The role of the Onboard Host Guide is to provide a high level of guest service and interesting informative narration to our guests traveling between Fairbanks and Seward by rail.

Primary responsibilities of the Onboard Host Guide include but are not limited to:

  • Speaking in front of groups of up to 80 guests on a broad range of Alaskan topics
  • Promoting and selling gift items related to the train experience
  • Educating guests on train safety and protocol
  • Coordinating dining room traffic by acting as a liaison between guests, Tour Directors, Servers, and Cooks.
  • Assisting bartender with beverage service whenever possible

    Minimum Qualifications
    Candidates for the Onboard Host Guide position must meet the following criteria in order to be considered as an applicant:

  • Be 21 years of age prior to May 1, 2008
  • Possess a current CPR and First Aid Certificate
  • Be able to lift a minimum of 35 lbs.
  • Possess a current TAMs card (Training will be provided)
  • Be willing to submit to a pre-employment drug test
  • Be a U.S. citizen or show proof of eligibility to work in the U.S.
  • Be able to work a full season (mid-May to mid-September.)
  • Be able to work as part of a team in close quarters with 5 other crewmembers

    Training Timeline
    Once hired, all candidates will participate in a thorough training program starting in May.
     
    Housing
    Employees are responsible for their own housing while not on tour. While on duty RCT will provide dorm style, company housing in Fairbanks. Out-of-state employees are responsible for providing their own transportation to Alaska and housing while in Anchorage.
     
    Wages & Bonuses
    First year Onboard Host Guide $10.00/hour + gratuities

    Employees will be eligible for a bonus of 10% of gross wages upon completion of their contract.

    Typically Onboard Host Guides work four consecutive 15-hour days per week for four weeks, then on the fifth week of the schedule rotation have a week off. Opportunities to pick-up shifts will arise. Onboard Host Guides are expected to be flexible and willing to assist in covering shifts. Several times throughout the season they will work the Anchorage to Seward train which will be an 18 hour work day.

     
    Benefits
    After successful completion of a full season contract RCT employees are eligible for a cruise of up to 14 days on Royal Caribbean or Celebrity Cruise Lines at a highly discounted employee rate.
