Motorcoach Tour Driver
The role of the MC Tour Driver is to provide safe transportation for guests and their luggage throughout the interior of Alaska. Motorcoach Tour Drivers are responsible for all operational aspects involving the operation of the motorcoach. Motorcoach Tour Drivers share the responsibility with the Tour Director of ensuring a safe, fun, and informative tour experience for guests traveling to Alaska. Motorcoach Tour Drivers also have the responsibility to provide safe and on-time transportation for guests arriving and departing the Fairbanks International Airport.

A tour driver's duties include but are not limited to:

  • Ensuring the safe operation of the motorcoach
  • Ensuring the safety of all passengers
  • Loading and unloading luggage from the motorcoach storage areas
  • Assisting Tour Directors by sharing regional specific commentary with tour guests
  • Assisting guests as they embark and disembark the motorcoach
  • Maintaining all required Department of Transportation paperwork on a daily basis
  • Cleaning the interior and exterior of the motorcoach

    The MC Tour Drivers' primary responsibility is SAFETY. Drivers are required to be punctual.

Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must meet the following criteria in order to be considered for a tour driver position:

  • 21 years of age or older by May 1 of the year for which applying
  • Able to successfully pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical
  • Must be willing to submit to pre-employment, random, post-accident, and just cause drug & alcohol testing
  • Possess a valid state drivers license
  • Possess or able to acquire a class "B" commercial driver's license with both air brake and passenger endorsements
  • Cannot have the following moving violations within the previous 3 years:
      (1) Driving 15 mph or more over the posted speed limit
      (2) Following vehicle ahead too closely
      (3) Improper of erratic lane change
      (4) Reckless driving
      (5) A violation arising in connection with a fatal accident (other than a parking violation)
  • Cannot have the following convictions:
      (1) DWI
      (2) DUI
      (3) Refusal to undergo such testing as required by any State or jurisdiction
      (4) More than 1 moving violation within the previous 2 years
      (5) Leaving the scene of an accident
      (6) Commission of a felony
  • Must be able to handle baggage and able to lift 50-75 pounds repeatedly
  • Must be willing to overnight frequently in shared RCT-provided housing away from their base location
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or able to provide verification of authorization to work in the U.S.
  • Possess a current CPR certificate and First Aid card
  • Successfully complete a driver training program and pass all associated tests

A current Commercial Drivers License (Class B) with Passenger and Air Brake endorsements and a minimum of 2 years motorcoach driving experience in Alaska is preferred, however RCT will provide CDL training to qualified applicants.

 
Training Timeline
The majority of the training will occur with a RCT driver trainer in flexible one-on-one driving sessions. There will also be a few required evening group classroom sessions and possibly an occasional Saturday session.
 
Housing
Drivers will be provided with shared dormitory style accommodations while on tour outside of Anchorage. Housing in the Anchorage area is the responsibility of the employee. Out-of-state employees are responsible for providing their own transportation to and from Alaska.
 
Wages & Bonuses
First year MC Tour Driver - $11.00/hour + gratuities and per diem
Training Wage $7.50/hour

All Drivers will be eligible for a bonus of 10% of gross wages, upon completion of their contract.

Overtime wages are paid at 1 1/2 times the regular rate of pay for the hours in excess of 8 hours per day or 40 hours per week.

After successful completion of a full season contract, RCT employees are eligible for a cruise on Royal Caribbean or Celebrity Cruise Lines at a highly discounted employee rate.
