Cruise Luggage Handler


Position Summary

The role of a Cruise Luggage Handler (Luggage Handler) is to assist Luggage Truck Drivers and Motorcoach Drivers in the loading and unloading of cruise ship guest's baggage onto luggage trucks during ship turn days. Luggage handlers help guests with their luggage at Anchorage area hotels as well as the Anchorage airport while keeping accurate counts. Luggage handlers watch guest's bags until they are claimed, and check guest's identification to make sure that all bags are claimed by the correct owner. THIS IS A ONE DAY A WEEK POSITION.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Primary responsibilities of the Cruise Luggage Handler include but are not limited to:

  • Greet and welcome guests as they arrive at the Anchorage airport and Hospitality Center and assist them with luggage as necessary
  • Provide guests with directions and any necessary information
  • Handle and resolve any guest service issues
  • Load and unload luggage onto trucks while maintaining accurate counts
  • Assist in locating and expediting lost or misplaced luggage
  • Secure checked luggage until claimed by guest
  • Work closely with hotel bell staff and other RCT field staff
  • Provide clear and concise directions to luggage truck drivers relating to hotel and airport operations
  • Record arrival and departure times of luggage trucks at the Anchorage airport
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:

Cruise Luggage Handlers must meet the following criteria in order to be considered as an applicant:

  • Be at least 16 years of age
  • Be a U.S. Citizen or able to provide verification of authorization to work in the U.S.
  • Must be available to work mid-May thru mid-September
  • Pass a pre-employment drug test
  • Be able to work in a team environment
  • Have excellent guest service skills with the ability to communicate effectively
  • Be able to respond to and provide solutions to common inquiries or complaints from guests
  • Be able to lift 50-75 pounds repetitively and stand for extended periods of time
Training Timeline:

Once hired, RCT will provide you with a thorough training program via classroom and on-the-job training.

Wages:

First year Cruise Luggage Handlers - $10.00/hr

Overtime wages are paid at 1 1/2 times the regular rate of pay for the hours in excess of 8 hours per day.

Bonus:

Upon successful completion of the assignment, you will be eligible for a Longevity Bonus calculated at 10% of your gross wages (regular and overtime) earned during this assignment. 

Benefits:

If hired prior to July 1st, and upon successful completion of this assignment, you will be eligible for a cruise on Royal Caribbean International or Celebrity Cruises at a highly discounted employee rate.
